Abstract

The present study aimed to identify the level of leadership personality among basketball coaches in Diyala Governorate, to assess the level of their time management skills, and to examine the extent of their commitment to applying effective time management practices during the training process. Moreover, the research sought to determine the nature of the correlation between leadership personality and time management among basketball coaches.

The researcher adopted the descriptive method using the correlational approach, as it is the most appropriate for addressing the nature of the research problem. The research population included basketball clubs in Diyala Governorate, selected intentionally, while the sample was chosen randomly by lottery. It consisted of (10) coaches representing the province’s clubs across different age categories, distributed as follows: (3) coaches from Diyala Sports Club, (2) coaches from the Specialized School for Nurturing Talent in Baqubah, (2) coaches from Al-Khalis Sports Club, and (3) coaches from Shahraban Sports Club.

The findings revealed that basketball coaches possessed a high level of leadership traits, reflecting their awareness of the importance of leadership in organizing and guiding the team toward achieving athletic objectives. Furthermore, the results indicated that the level of time management among the coaches was good, suggesting a solid understanding of the significance of utilizing training time effectively and distributing tasks efficiently. The statistical analysis showed a positive correlation between leadership personality and time management, indicating that enhanced leadership abilities are associated with improved training and administrative time management skills.

Based on these findings, the researcher recommends the adoption of standardized tools to measure leadership personality among coaches in sports clubs due to their significant role in enhancing time management and raising the efficiency of training performance. It is also advised to incorporate leadership development modules in coach preparation programs, focusing on traits such as decisiveness, emotional regulation, and decision-making, given their importance in organizing fieldwork. Moreover, the study recommends the implementation of continuous workshops and specialized courses in time management for basketball coaches, emphasizing effective planning techniques and the prioritization of training tasks. Finally, it is encouraged that leadership personality evaluations be included among the selection criteria for coaches in sports institutions, alongside technical and physical qualifications, to ensure the recruitment of well-rounded and capable professionals
