Carbohydrate intake after high-intensity exercise and its effect on antioxidants to eliminate free radicals as indicated by the catalase enzyme and the achievement of running 800 meters for young men

The importance of the research lies in consuming liquid carbohydrates after high-intensity training and improving antioxidants to eliminate free radicals and electrolytes, as indicated by the catalase enzyme, in order to raise the level of achievement for runners in the 800-meter event. The study aimed to identify the effect of carbohydrate consumption after high-intensity exercise on eliminating free radicals and electrolytes in young male 800m runners. The study demonstrated that carbohydrate consumption after high-intensity exercise had a positive effect on antioxidants, eliminating free radicals, as indicated by catalase activity and the performance of young male 800m runners. As for the research methodology, the experimental methodology was used with a single-group design with a pre-test and post-test. As for the research community and sample, it consisted of runners from Wasit Governorate clubs, numbering (6) runners. After conducting the pre-measurements, liquid carbohydrates were consumed for a period of time, then the post-measurements were conducted and the data were processed statistically using the SPSS statistical package. The results were reached, presented and discussed, and it was concluded that consuming carbohydrates had an effect in stimulating the catalase enzyme, which contributed to improving the level of achievement. Carbohydrates have an effect in stimulating catalase to eliminate free radicals in the research sample.
