Obstacles to Sports Tourism in Iraq from an Academic Perspective

Abstract

The significance of this research lies in identifying the obstacles that hinder development and progress, which in turn affect outcomes and the extent to which they are achieved. Understanding these obstacles is crucial for diagnosing deficiencies and proposing administrative solutions to existing problems. It also contributes to the optimal investment and management of state resources through the formulation of strategic plans aligned with the vision of effective governance. This is accomplished by constructing a questionnaire to explore the barriers to sports tourism in Iraq from an academic perspective, as well as by examining these barriers in depth. The researcher adopted the descriptive methodology using a survey approach, which is appropriate for the nature of the study. The research population and sample consisted of faculty members from the Colleges of Physical Education and Sports Sciences at public universities (Baghdad, Al-Mustansiriya, Diyala, and Tikrit), totaling 157 participants. A range of statistical tools was employed to derive results that support the study’s objectives. Research Findings:- The results revealed the existence of significant barriers to sports tourism in Iraq.- These barriers were identified and analyzed to understand their impact on the sector.Research Recommendations:  Emphasize the development of a strategic plan to address the barriers to sports tourism in Iraq. Encourage state institutions to invest greater effort in promoting sports tourism and enhancing its contribution to the national economy.
