Abstract

The objective of the present study was to construct a psychological stability scale based on trait theory for students of the College of Physical Education and Sports Sciences. The researchers employed the descriptive method using the survey approach due to its suitability for the nature of the problem. The research population consisted of third-stage students in the College of Physical Education and Sports Sciences, totaling (591) male and female students. The research sample was selected systematically to serve the aims of the study, and was divided as follows: Pilot sample: consisted of (15) male and female students and was used for the initial exploratory procedure to ensure the clarity of the scale’s items, the appropriateness of its instructions, and the feasibility of its application. Construction sample: consisted of (200) male and female students, representing the main sample used for constructing the scale and verifying its psychometric properties. Students were selected randomly to ensure objectivity and accurate representation of the population. The results revealed that constructing the psychological stability scale for students of the College of Physical Education and Sports Sciences resulted in a rigorously developed scientific tool composed of five main domains: Neuroticism, Conscientiousness, Extraversion, Agreeableness, and Openness. The psychometric properties were verified through content validity, item discrimination, and internal consistency. The reliability results, assessed using Cronbach’s Alpha for all domains, showed high values exceeding (0.70), confirming the scale’s reliability and applicability in the university environment. Based on these findings, the researchers recommend adopting this scale as a scientific tool for assessing the psychological stability levels among students of the College of Physical Education and Sports Sciences at the University of Diyala. The scale’s results may be utilized in designing psychological preparation and counseling programs that enhance students’ ability to cope with psychological pressures and improve the quality of their academic performance. Additionally, the scale can be employed in future applied studies on various population groups.
