The Effectiveness of the Supplement (Centrum Energy) Accompanying the Training Programme on Certain Biochemical Variables and Anaerobic Capacity in Advanced Basketball Players

Purpose: The study aimed to evaluate the effect of using the Centrum Energy dietary supplement, alongside a training programme, on certain biochemical variables (potassium, magnesium, calcium, and phosphorus levels, as well as vitamins B6 and B12) and anaerobic capacity in advanced basketball players. Methods: The experimental method was adopted. The researchers divided the research sample, which consisted of 16 players from the Al-Mustansiriya University national basketball team, into two groups: Experimental Group One: Received a placebo alongside the training programme. Experimental Group Two: Received the Centrum Energy dietary supplement alongside the training programme. The experiment lasted for 10 weeks, with pre-tests and post-tests conducted to measure the biochemical variables and anaerobic capacity using the Monarck test. Results: After conducting the pre-tests and post-tests, the data were statistically analysed. The results showed a statistically significant improvement in all biochemical variables and anaerobic capacity in Experimental Group Two, which received the dietary supplement. Experimental Group One showed no statistically significant improvement in the aforementioned variables. Furthermore, the differences between the two groups in the post-test measurements were statistically significant in favour of the second group.
