Abstract

The research aims to reveal the effect of special defensive exercises on a
number of physical characteristics of football players. The researcher used the
experimental method for its suitability and the nature of the research. The experiment
was implemented on a sample of Zakho Football Club youth players for the football
season (2022-2023), who numbered (2022-2023). 20) players were chosen
intentionally and divided randomly into two groups (experimental and control) with
(10) players for each group. Homogeneity was achieved in the variables (age, height,
mass) as well as parity between the two research groups in physical variables. The
design was adopted. The experimental design, which is called a random-selection
control group with two pre- and post-tests, The researchers used the arithmetic mean,
standard deviation, coefficient of variation, skewness coefficient, t-test for related
samples, t-test for independent samples as statistical means, and the researchers
concluded that the special defensive exercises carried out by the experimental group
achieved development in all physical characteristics, including experimental group
players, the control group also achieved development in explosive power and strength
characterized by speed and agility, but did not achieve development in maximum
transitional speed and strength endurance, of the control group players. While the
experimental group that carried out the special defensive exercises achieved better
development than the control group in most physical characteristics, with the
exception of maximum transitional speed.
