The effect of the K.W.L.plus strategy on cognitive achievement and learning the skill of scoring in football for students

Abstract

Fundamental football skills should reach the level of automaticity and mastery to enable students to perform them effectively. Among the most important of these skills are passing, dribbling, and shooting. Developing students' practical performance requires enhancing their theoretical knowledge alongside their technical abilities. Therefore, this study investigated the effectiveness of the K.W.L. Plus strategy in improving cognitive achievement and learning the football shooting skill . The research problem was represented by students' weak performance in the shooting skill and their low level of cognitive achievement concerning the technical aspects of football skills. This weakness was attributed to traditional teaching methods that rely mainly on lecturing, explanation, demonstration, memorisation, and imitation, with limited opportunities for active learning and the integration of theoretical knowledge with practical application. The study aimed to identify the effect of educational units designed according to the K.W.L. Plus strategy on developing cognitive achievement and improving the football shooting skill. An experimental design was adopted, involving an experimental group and a control group with pre-test and post-test measurements. The researcher hypothesised that statistically significant differences would be found in favour of the experimental group in both cognitive achievement and shooting skill performance. The findings revealed that the K.W.L. Plus strategy significantly enhanced students' cognitive achievement and contributed effectively to improving the performance of the football shooting skill. The study concluded that integrating the K.W.L. Plus strategy into football instruction provides an effective approach to enhancing both cognitive and practical learning outcomes.
